Radiological
Emergency Management
RSSI's
professionals are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and
365 days a year to
provide expert guidance and manpower in emergencies. Our
main objective in a radiological emergency situation is to
minimize the risk of contamination to workers and the public.
RSSI is prepared to respond to emergency situations with all
necessary personal protective equipment, tools, and equipment
necessary to contain and clean up and prevent the spread of
contamination. We use the appropriate radiation survey
instruments to ensure that all contamination is detected and can
be mitigated.
Emergency
response activities have included management of contamination in
cast iron consumer products, radioactive contamination of scrap,
and contamination of processing facilities where there was the
potential for uptake of radioactive material by humans. RSSI
has also handled incidents involving worker contamination, lost
radioactive materials, and spills of radioactive liquid.
Radiological
emergency management may also require public
communication and crisis management.
Phones
are staffed 24 hours a day at 847-965-1999 to respond to
emergencies.
